Felt Macarons

Have a look at these yummy treats. Have you tried a macaron before? Well these ones aren't for eating. These delicious looking macarons are created by Ouissi Gresty, have a look at her blog!

I saw these on the front cover of Mollie Makes magazine and thought they were adorable, I just had to try to make them. Boy they were harder than they look! It's all about making sure both your macaron sides are the same size and then making sure the filling doesn't hang over the sides. I had fun making them and it took me just under an hour to make one.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them, I was thinking of making a few more for some decorations at a friend's engagement party. I look forward to making the next thing I see in Mollie Makes magazine.

Took more than just one day to read

Just one day (Just one day #1) by Gayle Forman

Rating: 3 out of 5 hearts
368 pages
Released: January 2013
Buy it @ book depository

When sheltered American good girl Allyson "LuLu" Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

Review

"Because if time can be fluid, then maybe something that is just one day can go on indefinitely"

That ending! What a way to leave everyone hanging to find out what happens next. Luckily "Just one year" which is the sequel to this comes out in October, so there's not much longer to wait to find out what happens next.

The book started off a little slow and it took me a while to get any momentum to keep reading, I think that could be because the main character Allyson wasn't all that interesting. It wasn't until she met Willem and he named her "LuLu" that the story got so much better. Allyson took on a completely different personality when she became LuLu, she went from goody-two-shoes to rebel.

What I liked most about this book was Allyson's transformation. I went on a journey with her learning about Paris, culture and love. During the year that she travels around looking for Willem she changes the most. This is what I loved most about her, she learned to take risks and make friends with strangers. By the end of the book I felt that Allyson and Lulu started to melt into one person.

For those that have Gayle Forman's other books and didn't like them, I would recommend you read this because it's different from "If I stay". If you loved Forman's other books then I don't need to tell you to read this because you probably already have!

I can't wait to read the follow up book just to see what really happened when Willem left and what happened when they found each other again. It will also be interesting to read his point of view and see if Forman can write Willem in a way that lives up to everyone's standards.

On the cover

When I see this cover I think relaxation. She's staring out into nothing while enjoying a hot drink, sounds good to me! Only one thing is missing, a book! After reading I can see why that watch is a prominent peice on this cover.

Flowers & Flocking Powder nails

I've seen people using flocking powder on their nails for a while, so I bought some flocking powder off eBay and I finally decided to give it a go. It took me so long to get round to using my flocking powder because I wasn't sure what to do! My pack has 12 different colours so you can imagine it was difficult to decide.

Finally, I decided to do the mani above. I think light pink and mint green look great together but I wanted to do more. I thought sweet white & pink flowers would just top it off.

I started the flowers by doing the middle part and then the petals. To achieve the middle of the flower I used a dotting tool to blob on orange and once that was dry I did the same step again with yellow. Use a small brush and do small brush strokes to create the flower petals. I did the pink flower petals first and once they were dry I did the white petals.

I watched this great video to get an idea of how to put the flocking powder on my nails. The effect of the powder on the nail is awesome! Unfortunately it didn't last long for me, It lasted only a couple of days until most of it had rubbed off. That won't stop me from doing it again because it's very simple and looks fantastic!

Have you used flocking powder before?

Prentisstown isn't like other towns. Everyone can hear everyone else's thoughts in an overwhelming, never-ending stream of Noise. They find that in a town where privacy is impossible, something terrible has been hidden -- a secret so awful that Todd and Manchee must run for their lives.

But how do you escape when your pursuers can hear your every thought?

Check out this book trailer - it's amazing!

Review

"The Noise is a man unfiltered, and without a filter, a man is just chaos walking.”

I read and reviewed "A Monster Calls" which was also written by Patrick Ness and it was AMAZING! It was too hard to express it's awesomeness, this book is also pretty amazing. Ness has an incredible talent to writing a story.

The writing style was hard to get used to, but it didn't take long for me to fall deep into the story. It's difficult to get used to because there's deliberate grammar mistakes to give the reader the sense that the characters aren't well read or very clever. I feel that listening to this on Audio helped with getting used to the writing mainly because I didn't have to read the mistakes.

I loved the idea of the "Noise". Of being able to hear everyone's thoughts, even animals. It's so unique and I think Ness did a fantastic job of writing it in a way that was believable.

Todd and manchee are a perfect team. Then they meet up with Viola and the twosome becomes a threesome. Manchee reminded me of Dug, the dog from Up (the disney-pixar movie), mainly because he's a talking dog and because at one point in the story he spots a squirrel and yells "SQUIRREL" just like Dug in Up. Todd and Viola are two young kids I want to wrap up in my arms and keep them away from the bad men. But I wouldn't need to do that because they have so much strength and take care of themselves, It made you want to root for them.

This is a very long winded epic story about two kids and their dog who are walking, and at times running, away from the bad guys. But there's so much more in this book to enjoy. There's mystery, friendship, love and heartbreak. There are many twists and turns with lots getting revealed along the way, some things I had guessed but most was very eye-opening.

In a way this reminded me of World War two. There's an evil dictator who determines a certain group of people are bad and influences the rest of the people to take them to war. Even when the certain group have done nothing wrong.

The book ended with a bit of a cliff hanger but not big enough for me to rip my hair out. I really look forward to reading the next book in the series.

On the cover

I don't particuarly like this cover but it's perfect for this book. The noise, the knife and the trees in the background. There is another cover I have seen which has the same red knife but the background is white, I prefer that cover.
