Happy 2014!

First post for 2014! I hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Years and enjoyed your break (If you had one) I thought I would share some manis done over 2013 that I never got round to posting.

Spots & Glitter French tips
I wasn't as happy with these nails, because they didn't turn out how I imagined them in my head.
Simple french tips, which I then used a dotting tool to dot on the pink spots and swiped a bit of silver glitter on top of the tips.

What manis have you done lately?

BYS Caviar beads & Glitterdust swatch

I recently discovered BYS new range of polish range - caviar beads & glitterdust. I picked these up in my local K-mart for under $8.00. In the package you get a nail polish, a pot of either caviar beads or glitter dust and an application brush.

These are the colours that I chose but there are so many to choose from it was hard to pick. To see other colours then click on the links above. They come in really nice packaging too, which on the back gives you very simple instructions about how to apply the beads or glitter.
I used the caviar beads kit first and I absolutely love the coral colour nail polish that comes with it. The beads and polish suit each other really well.











It was so simple to apply the beads to the finger and the brush is so soft and easily sweeps the leftover beads off your finger and back into the pot.
One thing to mention is don't put a top coat over the beads because it wipes away the colour. But! I found that the other hand that didn't have a top coat on it didn't last as long, after a shower quite a few of the beads came off. So, I guess it's up to you if you want to put a top coat on or not.
To the right is the final product - I decided to only put beads on my accent finger. What do you think?

To apply the beads or glitter you paint your nail and while it is wet you dip it into the pot like in the first picture on the left. The next step is to take it out of the pot and let it dry on your nail - you will notice there will be a lot of glitter all over your finger like in the top right picture. The last step is to use your application brush to brush away the excess glitter back into the pot. Ta-da! You have a glitter covered nail like in the bottom right picture. Do not put a top coat over the glitter! It takes away the awesome effect.

The finished product - Glitter on the pointer & pinky finger, with a striped accent finger and the middle finger & thumb have silver holographic polish over black.

Australis Swatch ~ Fairy Bread Nails "Milky Way"

In one of my earlier posts I did a swatch of Face Of Australia's new nail enamel collection. Today I'm showing off one of Australis' nail enamel Glitter collection called "Milky Way"

This is three coats using the polish on naked nails and I think it looked really great, but I decided to add a bit of colour to my tips to match the colourful glitter. With each stroke you get LOTS of glitter and it spread quite easily. This polish is a milky white base with tiny blue glitter, and multi-colour medium & large hex glitter. I found this polish in my local Priceline store and it was $7.95 which I thought was a bit expensive. Then I decided $7.95 was reasonable for such an awesome colour and when good Franken-polishes are hard to come by in Australia, or are too expensive to ship from the U.S. 

I'd like to try this over some different coloured nail polishes to see how it may change the dynamic of the milky base and the different coloured glitters. I know the name of this polish is called "Milky Way" but I think it looks so much like Fairy bread, it's like I was wearing hundreds & thousands on my nails! (although there is a glitter in this collection already called Fairy Bread which I will be posting about at a later date)

Jelly Sandwich Tutorial

So I'm not sure if you've heard of the "Jelly Sandwich" technique when it comes to nail art but I heard about it and couldn't wait to give it a try because it's so easy and looks fantastic (when you have the right nail polishes)

My definiton of Jelly Sandwich:

Jelly Sandwich: Is when you have glitter nailpolish sandwiched between a colored nail polish.

Here is my first attempt at Jelly Sandwich and the step by step tutorial.

Step 1. Apply your color nailpolish

Step 2. Apply your glitter polish

Step 3. Put one more coat of your color polish over the top of the glitter.

Your all done {I also put a clear top coat on top}

I wasn't too happy with how this turned out so I tried it out with another nail polish I purchased. This time I used Revlon's Just Tinted range and the color is "Victorian".

This nail polish is very thin so I thought it would be perfect for attempting the Jelly Sandwich. It turned out ok, but still not what I was hoping for (I may have to get a more "jelly" type of nail polish). It also drys matte and I prefer a glossy look so I added a clear top coat for this manicure.

Below is another attempt trying out the Jelly Sandwich technique. I purchased a colorful glitter and thought this would be perfect for sandwiching between my Revlon Peach Smoothie #345 nail polish. This polish is part of Revlon's scented range so my nails smell really sweet and look really sweet, just like candy. The glitter made me think of a circus with the gold, red & blue and I liked how this turned out. I will keep trying to find other polishes that may create an awesome jelly sandwich manicure. Which manicure do you like the best?

Mermaid nails - Essence 'Blue Addicted'

Hi! Last weekend I did a bit of shopping and picked up this fantastic colour of nail polish, I couldn't get over how cute & tiny the bottle was!! This is a new range of products that Priceline sell called "Essence" so of course I had to check out their nail polishes. There were so many gorgeous colours but I couldn't pass this one up.

It's called 'Blue Addicted'. In the bottle the colour looks like it will be black with green & blue glitter mixed through but when I started applying it, I realised it's blue rather than black. There's not only the green and blue big chunks of glitter but there's a fine blue sparkle running through it too.

To get the look on my nails I applied 3 layers of colour, to get it even darker I could've tried for 4 layers but decided that I liked it like this.
It's a fairly quick drying nail polish so I could apply each layer within a few seconds. I also like that there's a good amount of glitter that comes out each time you apply.

After I was done, I thought "These look just like mermaid nails" because it reminds me of a mermaid's tail all sparkly & scaly swishing underwater.

 Have you tried this brand of nail polish before?

"Tia" Nails

Happy Thursday! These nails are inspired by my gorgeous dog Tia. {Pictured below} She's a girl so she has a lot of pink things and I thought this design suited her so well, so I decided to name this design "Tia" nails.

 Step 1. Paint all nails white.

Step 2. Next I did the pink heart which I used a dotting pen (or you can use a toothpick). 

Step 3.Paint the thumb in light pink crackle nail polish.

Step 4. Paint the 'Feature' nail in pink glitter {I used Revlon #230 Popular}

Step 5. Once the white nail polish is completely dry on the pointer and pinky finger get some removable sticky tap and cut it into thin strips and stick to nails like the picture. 

Step 6. Then paint the pink nail polish over the whole nail including the tape.

Step 7. Once the pink is dry then carefully remove. (You may need to get that toothpick out to touch up if a little bit of the nail polish comes off with the tape).

Step 8. Then add a top coat to finish it off!
