Happy Cucpcake Nails

A while back I saw these adorable nails by The Crafty Ninja and thought they would be awesome to re-create. Check out her post to see how she did hers and see how I did mine below.

They weren't as difficult as I thought they would be, but I found that my black nail polish was getting a bit stringy so that ruined my middle finger's eyes.

Other than that, I loved trying to re-create them and putting my own spin on them.
I even posed with one of my cute cupcake lolly jars - very kawaii!

Have you been inspired by someone else's nailart and tried to re-create it?
I'd love to see yours

Galaxy Nails

Galaxy Nails are all over the Internet at the moment. There are lots of different ways of doing it and plenty of youtube videos to show you how to do it, My friend even did a post over on her blog.

So I'm going to show you a few pictures of what I did. The base colour was ChiChi - It's Raining men. After this was completely dry I used make up sponges to sponge on all the different colours. I used 6 different colours to try to re-create a outer space look.
The colours were: OPI - Not like the movies, Revlon - Minted, Revlon - Pink Ice, BYS - Thank god it's Friday, Maybelline Colorama - Urban Orange & BYS - Sunshine. To finish it off and give it that little something extra I added a light sparkle polish which was ChiChi - Paparazzi Princess.

As you can see I got a bit carried away and didn't take any photos of putting Orange & Yellow nail polish on but you get the idea. I used a dotting tool to make the white dots or planets/stars.

This is the final product. I'm not as happy with this, but it was very easy so I can always try it again with different colour combinations.

Have you tried this mani before? Let me know, I'd love to see it!

January Nail Art Challenge

I saw this challenge on Instagram and thought it looked like a bit of fun. I didn't see this until the 4th so I missed out on doing the Ombre nails so I started with the Sparkles.

These are my Sparkles nails - cute and simple

These are my Pastel nails using one of my Franken polishes hand made by Terrestrial Nails called "Piggy"

These are my Animal Print nails. I did these early on a Friday morning before I started work so I did them really quickly and they're really messy! If I had time to do them I would've liked to do leopard print nails as I've never done them before.

I decided to do Navy & Subtle Snow nails together and I will post a tutorial of these nails at a later date so look forward to seeing that. It's very easy!

I'm about half way through the challenge and I've enjoyed doing it so far. The only thing is that I have to do my nails more regularly than I normally would. I usually paint my nails once a week where as I'm almost doing them twice a week while doing the challenge.

If you like doing your nails you should definitely try doing the February Challenge when it's posted on Instagram. I post all my nail art pictures of my Instagram, my username is love_sami if you would like to follow me.

Rainbow Gradient Nails

"Rainbow: An arch of colors formed in the sky in certain circumstances, caused by the refraction and dispersion of the sun's light by rain or...Any display of the colors of the spectrum produced by dispersion of light."

Here's another nail post for all you nail lovers out there! Things that you will need to achieve this manicure

  • White nail polish
  • Multiple colours nail polish (I chose blue, green, yellow, orange and red)
  • Make-up sponges
  • Cotton buds
  • Nail Polish remover
  • Top & Base coats
  • Glitter top as desired

{All the nail polishes I used except for top & base coats}

These nails look so amazing in real life but they were such a hassle to do. I thought to myself "Gradient nails using a sponge looks easy, I'll give it a try". But I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong!

Firstly I started with just a base coat and applied all the colours to the makeup sponge in a line (like the picture below) and pushed it onto my nail but nothing seemed to come off. So I applied a very thick amount of the 5 nailpolish colours and tried again, only to achieve the same results.

I then had a thought "Maybe if I applied white nail polish it would work", it didn't! I have no idea what I was doing wrong and why the polish wasn't going onto my nails in a rainbow pattern. The only colors that seemed to be rubbing off the sponge and onto my nails were the blue and red.

So, I removed all the nail polish and then re applied the white and started all over again. This time I used separate make-up sponges for each of the five colors like the picture below.

Below are the step by step pictures of how I applied each of the colors.

1. Apply white nail polish

2. Apply the yellow with the sponge to the middle of your nail

3. Apply the orange using the sponge toward the tip of your nail

4. Apply the red with the sponge to the tip of your finger.

5. Apply the green with the sponge to the top part of your nail.

6. Apply the blue with the sponge to upper part of your nail but still leave some green.

As you can see in the above picture that it was quite messy using the sponges (especially when that is my right hand pictured so I was using my left hand to apply the colors). I poured some nail polish remover into the cap of the bottle and then used LOTS of cotton buds dipped in the nail polish remover to rub away the excess color on my fingers. Below is the end result.

I decided that a glitter top coat would give my manicure that extra bit of something,
What do you think?

Anyone hungry for some M&M's?

Wow I haven't posted anything in a while so here's a post about some nails I did a while back. I have always wanted to do this nail art design but never got around to it. I thought that now is the time! And to top it off, it was so easy and effective! To achieve this manicure I picked five M&M's colors - yellow, green, orange, brown and red. I painted each colour on and once they were dry I drew the M's on with my white nail polish and my dotting pen. As always I add a top coat to finish it off and that's it really! I wished that my 'M's' turned out a bit better but otherwise I like this as a quick manicure. You could do the same with Skittles. Pick 5 of the Skittles colours and the instead of whie M's you do S's. That would look very cute.

What do you think of this manicure?

Wishlist #2

1. Wooden Cameo brooch ~ $15 from madeit
2. Caelia Fairy by Selina Fenech ~ $28.70 from LaceyLady
3. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare ~ Released in 2013 info on goodreads
4. "Ode to the elite" Nail polish ~ $10 from Etsy
5. Red Fox Mary Janes ~ $24 from Etsy

1. I love brooches. I have a very plain uniform that I wear to work, (yes that's right, I work at a library and wear a uniform - weird!) so I like to wear brooches to jazz it up.

2. Fairies are so beautiful and I have many collectable figurines among other things. I think this one is simply gorgeous and would be perfect for my collection (if my boyfriend would let me buy anymore)

3. This cover is divine! It's the newest book in the "Infernal Devices" series, need I say more...

4. I need this! It will dress up any color nail polish and be perfect for my polish collection.

5. How cute are these? I think I have a thing about foxes, owls are out - foxes are in.

What is on your wishlist?

Jelly Sandwich Tutorial

So I'm not sure if you've heard of the "Jelly Sandwich" technique when it comes to nail art but I heard about it and couldn't wait to give it a try because it's so easy and looks fantastic (when you have the right nail polishes)

My definiton of Jelly Sandwich:
Jelly Sandwich: Is when you have glitter nailpolish sandwiched between a colored nail polish.

Here is my first attempt at Jelly Sandwich and the step by step tutorial.

Step 1. Apply your color nailpolish
Step 2. Apply your glitter polish
Step 3. Put one more coat of your color polish over the top of the glitter.
Your all done {I also put a clear top coat on top}

I wasn't too happy with how this turned out so I tried it out with another nail polish I purchased. This time I used Revlon's Just Tinted range and the color is "Victorian".

This nail polish is very thin so I thought it would be perfect for attempting the Jelly Sandwich. It turned out ok, but still not what I was hoping for (I may have to get a more "jelly" type of nail polish). It also drys matte and I prefer a glossy look so I added a clear top coat for this manicure.

Below is another attempt trying out the Jelly Sandwich technique. I purchased a colorful glitter and thought this would be perfect for sandwiching between my Revlon Peach Smoothie #345 nail polish. This polish is part of Revlon's scented range so my nails smell really sweet and look really sweet, just like candy. The glitter made me think of a circus with the gold, red & blue and I liked how this turned out. I will keep trying to find other polishes that may create an awesome jelly sandwich manicure. Which manicure do you like the best?

Have you tried this technique before? How did it turn out for you?

Mermaid nails - Essence 'Blue Addicted'

Hi! Last weekend I did a bit of shopping and picked up this fantastic colour of nail polish, I couldn't get over how cute & tiny the bottle was!! This is a new range of products that Priceline sell called "Essence" so of course I had to check out their nail polishes. There were so many gorgeous colours but I couldn't pass this one up.

It's called 'Blue Addicted'. In the bottle the colour looks like it will be black with green & blue glitter mixed through but when I started applying it, I realised it's blue rather than black. There's not only the green and blue big chunks of glitter but there's a fine blue sparkle running through it too.

To get the look on my nails I applied 3 layers of colour, to get it even darker I could've tried for 4 layers but decided that I liked it like this.
It's a fairly quick drying nail polish so I could apply each layer within a few seconds. I also like that there's a good amount of glitter that comes out each time you apply.

After I was done, I thought "These look just like mermaid nails" because it reminds me of a mermaid's tail all sparkly & scaly swishing underwater.

Have you tried this brand of nail polish before?

Colorful Butterfly & Flowers Nails

These nails were inspired by someone I follow on Instagram. I saw her design and loved it so much that I wanted to try to re-create it. I did these nails at night and didn't get round to taking some nice tutorial photos, sorry!

Basically I used Revlon Peach Smoothie #345 as the base color. I applied one coat so it gives the effect of not having any nail polish on... my nails are nude! :-P Then using my 2 way nail polishes I did all the detail with the flowers & butterflies. On a side note I did these nails over a week ago and they still look really good!

Oh and the Revlon nail polish is part of their scented range so not only did my nails look really cool, they also smelt really nice.

Below is a close up of the design.

Is there a design which you have re-created or want to?

"Tia" Nails

Happy Thursday! These nails are inspired by my gorgeous dog Tia. {Pictured below} She's a girl so she has a lot of pink things and I thought this design suited her so well, so I decided to name this design "Tia" nails.

Step 1. Paint all nails white.

Step 2. Next I did the pink heart which I used a dotting pen (or you can use a toothpick).

Step 3.Paint the thumb in light pink crackle nail polish.

Step 4. Paint the 'Feature' nail in pink glitter {I used Revlon #230 Popular}

Step 5. Once the white nail polish is completely dry on the pointer and pinky finger get some removable sticky tap and cut it into thin strips and stick to nails like the picture.

Step 6. Then paint the pink nail polish over the whole nail including the tape.

Step 7. Once the pink is dry then carefully remove. (You may need to get that toothpick out to touch up if a little bit of the nail polish comes off with the tape).

Step 8. Then add a top coat to finish it off!

Right: All the nail polish colours I used {not including my base & top coats}

Do you have a pet? What type of nails would you do for them?

Bye for now ~ Sami X
